| " I would venture to say that many people who visit the west coast of Florida are not familiar with the tiny city of Safety Harbor.
It's the type of small, scenic, picturesque city that gives you the feeling that you're driving through a nice residential part of a large town. With less than 20,000
residents, it's like stepping back in time when small towns abounded and you could go downtown and see all the sites and go shopping without the aid of a car.
The city itself has a long history starting with the Timucuan Indians who first made this area their home.
As a youngster growing up and going to school in Tampa, Florida history was part of our curriculum and we all learned about the famous Fountain of Youth. In 1539 while on one of his adventures searching for the fountain, Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto named the natural springs found in Safety Harbor the Espiritu Santo springs. These springs are famous and much sought after for their restorative powers.
A major attraction in Safety Harbor is the famous resort and spa itself. The Spa, http://www.safetyharborspa.com/ is recognized as a historical landmark and a Florida heritage landmark and draws visitors from all parts of the world to relax and enjoy the springs and all that the spa has to offer.
From a dip in the pool filled with natural mineral spring's water to a match on the court, there are plenty of activities to help tone and relax both the mind and body. There are 193 rooms available at this 3 star rated hotel.
Another area of Safety Harbor that has a history of its own is Philippe Park. This 122-acre area in Pinellas Park was the home of Count Odet Philippe in 1823. Philippe, at the time, was a surgeon serving in Napoleon's navy.
I have been to the park several times throughout the years and I have to say it is one of the loveliest parks around. Bordered by Tampa Bay, the miles of park setting, including quiet picnic locations, is a great getaway from the noise and bustle of the city. Peace and solitude and magnificent sunsets make the park an ideal place to unwind and just enjoy the Florida sunshine.
If you plan to stay in Safety Harbor or nearby Clearwater and are interested in boating and learning proper boating procedures, the Safety Harbor Boat Club http://www.safetyharborboatclub.org/ has classes promoting safe boating. " From :Vickie Ferguson's Safety Harbor
